I chose Subur's Household. Her house isn't really a house, but it's just a Benchwhere she sleeps in. By listening to her speak, I think her sense of place is people around her (her neighbors), her son, and the bench where she sleeps. I think most of the things that makes her feel at home is her thoughts and memories.

I have chosen Indonesia,Subur's Household. Her place is in the market/streets on a table/bed with many people surrounding her.Her feelings about the past is very important to her. I beleive that her comforts is her child(son),the people surrounding her and the place where she stays(the table/bench).

I chose the Asanah’s house hold (Jakarta, Indonesia). They live under a bridge and sometimes when they are sleeping their house shakes and they are scared the bridge is going to fall. Asanah house is so small when their family sleeps and if one moves everyone will move. They have five people in their family. Their house was made in two days and the mother is really happy about her husband who brought all the Dunlop stickers because she wants it to be decorated. By the look of the things they own is quite a lot for people living in the slums because they have a clock, calendar and toys. By listening to her it seems their sense of place is their family and their house.

I have chosen Subur's house in Jakarta, Indonisia. Her place is on a bench in front of somebody's house. She lives there with her son. She gets along with the neighborhood here. When it rains she put her baby on her lap. So the baby doesn’t get wet, Subur prefer getting herself in the rain, wind and sun more than her baby getting sick and huingry. The 3 things that shows their place is the bench, the ripped table cloth and the blue tiles on the bench. I think that she is happy now, living with her son and her community.

I chose the Asanah's house, Jakarta Indonesia. I like this house hold because all family members are together and they are happy. I think it is their sense of place because they are happy where they live and they are proud of it. I think that this family is very lucky because not all families get to be together.

I chose Indonesia, Subur house hold. Her house isn't really a house it's a blue tile bench and she live with her son. Her son is 9 months old and his mother always feed him before herself and when it rains she puts him on her lap so he wouldn't get wet or sick. The 3 things that shows her place is the bench, thin blanket and the blue tiles on the bench. I don't think shes happy living there but still she gets along with her neighbors.

I have chosen the Arori's family in Kibera, Narobi, Kenya. They live in a 10 by 10 feet room where he has decorated the walls with newspapers because he thinks it looks pretty and it helps him spot the creatures on the walls. There are no windows in the room and he is frightened of suffocation and disease. There is only one bed for ten people. He is happy because he has a job and does not feel dependent on anybody. He also has a T.V so it makes him feel rich. The three things that shows their sense of place is the newspapers hanging on the wall, the T.V and the bed. His next aim is to by a fan to make things cooler. I think that this family is the happiest one I have seen so far because everything is so orginised.

  9. Yeewah i chose the Subur's household(indonisia). Her sence of place is on a bench. Before she sleeps on a bench she slept under a stair of a house but then the people who lived there were disturbed by her. So she moved and ask the owner of a bench if she could sleep there the owner said yes. She got along well with the neighbours. So she will live there permanently. She is a security at that place aswell. Her work is to wash peoples clothes and collect plastic water bottles. So she have enough to eat, if it runs out of food she works again. When she was 12 years old she got married even though she didn't finish her studying, then her husbnand died so she is a widow. She new that her husband was a married man. So she had a son about 9 mounths now. When the rain starts to fall she puts him on her lap because she dosen't want her son to get wet. She can stand the cold the wetness and the wind she dose not mind being sleepy or hungry as long as her child has food and a sleep. When she was about her sons age her dad couldn't afford to care for her so he gave her to the guy who owns the water pump. She doen't have to pay to sleep there even though they are not her real parents. And that is her story

I have chosen Subur's household in Jakarta,Indonesia. Subur's place tells you briefly what her life is like. There is a little sense of belonging at the household which tells you that she is poor. Subur's place isn't really a house but it is a bench at a slum. Surbur has these things to describe her place: 2-3 pots for cooking(So she has a little portion of food),A hat(to keep safe from the sun)and her baby. Subur's child looks kind of unhealthy/tired but, I think that Subur is trying to keep her baby healthy by feeding her child first. Overall, I think that Surbur's place is very important and special to her and her child.

I Have chosen the subur's house in Jakarta,Indonesia. Her life is poor but she is happy the way she lives. First she was living on the stair of a house but the people is disturbed so they dont let her stay so she had to move out. She moved to a bench that she asked the owner that can I live here and the owner said yes. So the Subur family will live their for permenent with her son which is 8 month's old. Her Work is to wash clothes for other people so she get's money to buy food for her son she dosen matter that if she is hungry or not but she just want her son to be not hungry and to be warm and safe. I think that she is quite happy about her place and life. The three things that is important to her is the bench for living and sleeping ,The old table cloth for the comfortable and the blue tile which is for decoration too. She has a step father and mother which own the water pump so she dose not need to pay for the water. I would hope she woild have a better life.

I choose Asanah’s Place(Jakarta) because i feel really sorry for her. They have to live under a bridge and try to survive.
I also feel sorry for the mum because she is sad that she has to live there but she is really sorry for her dauter and not her self which is really unselfish of her.
At night they are sometimes scared because they live under a train track and when the trains come they are afraid the bridge might break.
It is life thretaning because once their son almost died when he sliped and nearly fell in to the river. If his dad had not caught him then he would have been swept away by the current

Im surprised because they have a t.v and good pairs of shoes. they get scared because people throw cigerates from the top of the bridge because there scared that the cigerate will start a fire

  14. I chosed Arori's house because it was intresting for me. But when I look at their home I feel so sad about them because they have very little stuff. The walls are covered whith newspaper and it looks dirty. They use the sofa to sleep even if they are a big family. The clothes they have are dirty and are not cool ones and is just simple. But they have a TV which most houses in the slums don't have. So they are able to no what is happening on the outside world. They are always praying to got to not have a disease which most people have around his home. After looking at their home I feel realy lucky in a ggreat home where I can have stuff I want. So I must appreiciate my parents.

I think where matters because we might have a better life in Thailand with a wealthy and rich family than ina poor village in Africa. We might also have a more enjoyable life because; our parents can afford to buy us things that we want. I would not want to live in burma because there is no democracy and there is only dictatorship. That is why I think where matters.

I chose Asanah's house. I feel sorry for them that they have to have to live in such a small house and cram many people in the house(5). While they sleep when the person moves everybody moves. I also feel sorry for the mother because she cares for her daughter more then herself. They live under the bridge which they have house which is decorated with dunlop stickers and they like it alot. They sometimes feel scared that maybe the bridge collapse. they also have a calendar, clock and some toys. I think their sense of place is their house.

I chose Assanahs house hold in Jakarta under a small bridge. It tells me that their sense of place is small and cosy. They seem to have happiness and pride in their eyes saying this is my home. They have decorated it to their liking and is happy with all they have right now. They would like a better home but they will have to deal with this for now!

I chose Assanahs house in a small area of Jakarta . It looks like their sense of place is small and cozy, and that they are proud to say that it is their home and not saying that they need a bigger and better house. Their house is made of plastic, but they have covered a bit of it with their personal property, like a calender and their clothes. I think that they would like a better house, security and strength wise, so that they will have better shelter. They need a larger house so that they don't have kneel and move around. But its this house for the time being.

I chose the lohar's house(Mumbai). His most important things in his house were his T.V, bed which is boss gave to him and his clothes.Even though his house hold looks small he's still proud of it. He earns his money by living like a carpenter. He has a wife and a daughter. I feel sorry for him because he doesn't have a proper life style such as myself.

The place i chose is Dhavari, Mumbai, India.I chose the place because it is most connected to me.Their sense of place from what they say according to the video they feel happy about their sense of place. For me it looked very dirty. They also don't wan't their place to be destroyed. It also did'nt look so big and they were many people who lived in that place.

  21. I choose the Asanah family because I feel sorry for them. They live under the bridge and sometimes the bridge shakes. They are scared that the bridge will collapse and their house will collapes too. Their house is small. When someone moves, everyone else moves too. I think they don't really care if they don't have a big house or lots of money because they have each other and their family so it doesn't matter where they are.

People live where they are born but some people shift to other places. They have many reasons to shift, like because doing business is hard in that country, or maybe because they change their jobs. Like in India this man moved to another city for getting a good job. This man was happy to work.

I chose Assanahs house in a small area of Jakarta. Their house is small and made out of plastic. They had a calender and clock covering part of the wall. I think they are proud to be in that house but to me, it's not very good. I think they don't have a lot of choices.

  24. I chose the Asanah's hous in a small area of Jakarta. They live under a bridge and when they sleep the house shakes and they are scared that the bridge will fall. There are 5 people in the family, the mother, the son, the husband and someone else. There place is made out of plastic. They live under the bridge because because they don't have enough money.

They built the house in 2 days. They also have decorations to make the place looks nice. To me I would be frightened to live under a bridge. The house is very small. They manage to fit all of them in the house. They don't have much. The ceiling in very low. The mother's sense of place is the family and the house.

I chose Asana's house in Jakarta, Indonisia. The first thing I saw we shows there sense of place is the calender it shows me that the mother likes to be organised and neat because of the way her home is presented. I also know she is neat and house proud by the coat hangers and the duster I saw in her home. Next there is the fan which shows that there sense of place is a hot place and they need fans to keep them cool. It also shows that they have electricity under the bridge where they live. The third thing I think contributes to their sense of place is the fact that they can afford to buy nice clothes, books to draw in and photo frames which shows that they do have some money. That is my definition on Asana's sense of place.

  26. I chose the Yusuf household because there are 2 children and the person narrating the story was the mother of the children. She worked hard to support her family but it isn’t enough. One day she meets a group of women and they gave her a business and then her mother died. She went to the room where her mother died and she decorated it. She made money through the business and became richer. She continued getting her living as a farmer and was able to pay her loans and made enough money. She dreams to become richer and buy a bigger house for her and her family to live in. Buddy

  27. I choose the Lohar household(Mumbai,India). I think that after what I heard about his life with him and his wife I knew at once that without his wife his life isn't complete. It doesn't feel good when nobody is around you to talk to and have fun with especially when you live in the slums. I think that he would be really really sad if he lost his wife.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I chose Lohar's household(Mumbai,India) because his talk we listen to is that he had to rent an apartment in Mumbai(India) and he lives with his wife and a son/daugher. The talk that we listen to seem to me that without his family, he could'nt find the missing piece to the jigsaw and without his family his life would'nt be sussesful and he would'nt have anyone to be with and I think if he lost his wife he would be very very sad.

I chose Indonesia [subur's house hold].Her house is just only a rock beach ,where she and her son sleep. It is like in the market .There are some other people that lives next to her, but they have a small house each and some of them sell foods ,clothes and some other stuff. She looks really poor. Her lip is is dark red like she is sick and haugry.I think her sence of place is her house where she live with her son.

  30. I chose Assanahs house in Jakarta. Their house is small and is made out of plastic and tapes which isn’t good material to make a shelter out of. It can collapse any time and they have no idea when they have to shift. Their house has pretty good stuff in it like a calendar, clock, and much other small stuff. I think they bought some necessary stuff and the other stuff; they might have got it from the garbage, the street or begged for it.

  31. I chose the Lohar household in Mumbai,India. The house is small but is made from strong cement which protects them from rain and sun. The Lohar family are lucky since they have some funiture and accesories in their house like a TV, Music System, etc...

    ReplyDelete
  32. I choose Subur's household in Indonesia. She doesn't have much clothes, only a handful. She has a big pot to cook food in, a wooden board to clean clothes with, and the bench she sleeps on. She doesn't really have a roof because she lives outside. And anyone can see what she's doing.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This is a continued from my other one.
Subur's sense of place is on a bench outside someone elses's house. She sleeps, eats, and does all the other things on that bench to. She has to share the bench with her son.

  34. I chose the Lohar home in Mumbai, India the three things I chose were the radio because it kind of what kind of person his boss is and also what he might like to do, the second ones I chose is the bed because not everyone has a bed he is probably a very experienced carpenter. Lastly I chose the TV because it shows that he is probably likes to see what is going on in the world. so his sence of place is his home.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I chose the Lohar home in Mumbai (India). The Lohar house is not very big and he doesn't have much money so he has to do a business next to his house because it is easier to go to work and also he has a wife and she is not allowed to go out of the house so he has to take care of her. He has a lot of things that he bought and many things he got for free. The item I chose in the Lohar house was the music system because he might be listening to songs or prayers music when he is eating of when he is doing anything. His sense of place is at home.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I chose the Lohars home that is in Mumbai. He has a small T.V so he can see what is happening in the world and his radio lets him listen to the news and that is his sense of place.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I chose the lohars home in mumbai. He has a music system so he could listen to music in the morning and get the day started so he could focus on his job easier and it is part of his sense of place.

I also feel sorry or him because they don't have much money so they can't buy a lot of stuff so we have to work hard so we wont be poor.
